The word "Holocaust," from the Greek words "holos" (whole) and "kaustos" (burned). During the first half of the twentieth century, the Nazi Party that was led by Adolf Hitler incouraged prejudice on Jews and other "un-undesirables". The Nazis developed something called "The Final Solution" which was a plan to rid all of the jews.. They decided the most efficient way of doing this was to set up camps to exterminate their existence so they would not pass on children and get in the way of a "perfect race". The Nazis also set up ghettos, where Jews would live in horid conditions. Jewish children could not go to schools with the other German children, and Jewish businesses were forced to close. Sacred Jewish temples were burned and vandalized. The Nazis did not achieve their goal, but they managed to kill 5-6 million Jews (and a further 5 million other victims) in cruel, sadistic inhumane acts.
