Impacts of WWII
U.S. — WW2 was very good for America, it created 17 million new jobs and basically took unemployment out of America. Average wages increased 30 percent due to the amount of industrial output. By Christmas 1942 America was outputting more than Germany, Japan, and Italy combined. This time was a huge moment because at this time most countries weren’t growing as rapidly as America and most of the powerful countries before the war fell economically after the war had ended. This gave America a superpower status that we still hold today.
Black Americans before the WW2 and after WW1 had still been looked at as always second class citizens, but the war allowed black American’s to change this. Before the war there was a segregation in the army, only 12 black officers were appointed, but as the war progressed the number of black officers and pilots was on an increased.
Germany – Was completely devastated. Allied forces carpet bombed cities, killing many. The nation was financially devastated too, the Nazi party desperately spending to fuel the war. The nation was in disgraced because of the things that had happened under their noses, the Holocaust was the biggest. Germany was left to start back with ales than nothing and Germany would not be unified till 1990.
Japan – 2.74 million Japanese servicemen and civilians died as a result of war. The Allied forces destroyed one-fourth of the nation’s wealth, one-third of Japans industrial machine tools, and almost one-fourth of all rolling stock and automobiles. Many people were left homeless and the soldiers had fought for nothing. People starting dying because food was scarce where the bombs had hit. Japan was hit hard and hadn’t recovered on their own. The U.S. occupied Japan for the following six years they helped build, fund, and made sure that they got back on their feet.
